London Student Ambassador programme launchedLUIP ambassadors 2012
Goldsmiths is proud to be part of a group of 16 universities in London that have launched a new initiative with international students who will become ambassadors for London. 30 lucky international students were presented with a symbolic key to the city to unlock the yearlong programme of activities that demonstrate why London is the world’s best study destination. The chosen students from the USA and India will take part in a series of learning, networking and behind-the-scenes tours which will give the students unprecedented access to the city’s iconic organisations and attractions.

The programme launched by the London Universities International Partnership (LUIP), and supported by London & Partners, is designed to help the  student ambassadors discover the unrivalled opportunities that studying in such a multicultural, vibrant and creative  city like London can offer. They will be communicating their experiences to a wider audience in the USA and India, online through their own blogs, tweets and videos.‌

Teaching will extend across many aspects of Chinese performance and culture, as well as providing opportunities for academic visits and exchanges to explore research and creative projects with the Beijing Dance Academy.

Several Goldsmiths departments across the arts and social sciences are already involved - in particular Theatre and Performance, and Music - in addition to language tuition.

Brazilian arts and humanities students expand academic horizons at Goldsmiths
Fourteen undergraduate students from one of Brazil’s most prestigious universities will come to Goldsmiths this winter to benefit from an international academic experience.

The students, from the arts and humanities faculty at UNICAMP, were selected through the Santander International Mobility Program and will spend ten weeks at Goldsmiths with registration, tuition, airfare, health insurance, accommodation and spending money covered by the bank.

Professor Marcelo Knobel, Dean of Graduate Studies at UNICAMP, said that this model of 'summer school' is a way to ensure students broaden their knowledge and experience of the arts and humanities which are not provided by the Brazilian federal programme ‘Science Without Borders’: "It's the first summer school (summer for Brazil, but winter in London). We are testing this model and it will be interesting to see the return of students, with insight and ideas that allow us to enhance and grow the project for future generations."

Geraint Fox, Head of International Partnerships and Developments at Goldsmiths welcomed the initiative: “This cohort of students will join a growing cohort of students from Brazil and wider Latin America who choose to come to Goldmsiths; I am particularly pleased that the sponsorship from Santander is enabling students who do not traditionally have the opportunity to study abroad to attend Goldsmiths, very much in line with our own commitment to widening access to higher education.”

Gustavo Macedo, a student of social sciences at UNICAMP, said: "This trip is very important to broaden my research and personal experiences. As a social scientist, it is crucial to study international politics to connect with other cultures."
